Drug detoxification is an important first step
in the recovery of many types of addictions. The
detox process precedes addiction treatment and
should not be mistaken as drug rehabilitation.
There are many methods to assist with medical
withdrawal and choosing the right one is also of
ultra importance! Many addictions produce
life threatening withdrawal symptoms and require
medical detoxification which is performed under
the supervision of qualified physician. Moreover, an
addict who completes a drug detox program and neglects
to follow it up with appropriate treatment
typically find themselves struggling, and back
on drugs in a relatively short period of time.
Drug detox is not designed to treat the psychological,
spiritual, social, and behavioral aspects of addiction and therefore
does not produce lasting changes necessary
for successful recovery and only beneficial
when it is followed by comprehensive drug rehabilitation with the majority of cases.
